On Saturday, December 13 at 8:30 p.m., the City Market will transform into the heart of powerful indie rock sound – as the Rijeka-based band Jonathan takes the stage of Gramofon. The five close friends from Rijeka have long been known for their intense live performances, emotional depth, and a distinctive sound that blends post-punk and modern pop-rock.
Jonathan came together in 2011, and their instant musical chemistry led to the creation of a sound that breaks both geographic and linguistic boundaries. From their debut single “Maggie” and acclaimed album “Bliss”, to the conceptual double release “To Love or To Hold”, Jonathan have earned a reputation as one of Croatia’s leading contemporary bands.
Their style is often described as dark-lens optimism – a combination of raw energy, melancholy, and powerful guitar lines, with frontman Zoran Badurina’s David Bowie–like vocals at the forefront. Critics have compared them to acts such as Editors, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, and The Strokes, yet Jonathan has carved out their own authentic identity, standing confidently alongside the giants of indie rock.
